ABOUT MUNNAR
Munnar is a charming chunk of the lofty Western Ghats in the backwater country of Kerala in South India. The town of Munnar stands at the convergence of three mount streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. HISTORY OF MUNNAR
Munnar- one of the most important tourist attractive places in the Idukki District, Kerala the 'Gods own Country' I t is situated about 140 kms away from Cochin on Madurai Cochin NH49. The land ranges from 4500 feet MSL to 8200 feet MSL. Eravikulam National park is here. Present population of this panchayat is around, 1, 50,000 and almost 90% of this population are plantation workers born and brought up at munnar, but migrated from various parts of TamilNadu.
The mountains which which sustain the climate, deserve worshipping, like the sacred periyar River, that originate from them. The thre rivers, Nullatanni, Kanniar and palar have their confluence at munnar valley to from Muthirappuzha river to Trans from into the might periyar at Nerimangalam at the little distance.
POLITICAL
The temple city of Madurai was the capital of pandya king, Manna 'Vikrama Kulasekhara Peru mall' when defeated in a war with the Cholas of Tanjore, king Manna Vikrama retreated into the safety of the hills of Anjanad, Marayoor, Kanthaloor Keelanthoor, Vattavada and Koviloor, In his journey his mannan settled in these hills. Temple subjects followed him and they are the Mudhuvans. This was happened in the year 1152 A.D. In the year 1252 and 1419 his successors who had by then established a kingdom in travancore called poonjar Edavaga; one of the tracts purchased from Chengamanad Dew swam called Kannan Devon Hills is now saluted Munnar Hills.
